Through an ADUE Academic Innovation Grant and subsequent $1.3M investment from Michigan Engineering, C-SED has developed a collection of contemporary and historical case studies that reveal how inclusion and equity are integral to engineering processes. There are currently 13 case studies available for faculty use. To learn more, visit the C-SED website or contact case-study-info@umich.edu

Next Steps

A $1.2M National Science Foundation award will enable leaders from Michigan Engineering and the U-M School of Education to establish a Teaching Equity Engineering Center. Leveraging the college’s ongoing investment, the Center’s work will center on developing an evidence-based framework for teaching equity-centered content; expanding the library of DEI case studies and instructional materials; and providing training opportunities for instructors, including teaching circles. In partnership with C-SED & CRLT-Engin, faculty can integrate existing DEI engineering case studies into their courses, co-develop new cases, and implement equity-focused pedagogy to support student content integration and climate.

Timeline

An extended repository of DEI instructional resources in engineering will be constructed over the next three years, including case studies tailored to specific courses.
